- Incident response test 15 challenges Containment decisions, forensics, evidence handling and post-incident review.
More roles we assess
Hiring for another role? We test that too.
Every assessment is built from the job spec, so any cyber security role can be tested hands-on. These are some of the most common.
- Security engineers Firewall rules, Group Policy, Linux hardening and packet analysis.
- Cloud security engineers IAM policies, storage misconfiguration and cloud audit logs across AWS, Azure and GCP.
- Application security engineers Secure code review: find the flaw, explain the exploit, propose the fix.
- GRC analysts Vendor SOC 2 reports, risk registers, ISO 27001 gap analysis and control mapping.
- Detection engineers Sigma rule triage, KQL detection labs and noisy rule tuning.
- IAM engineers Token theft, consent phishing and Conditional Access bypass investigations.

Common questions
About cyber security skills tests.
What is a cyber security skills test?
A test that checks whether a candidate can do the work a cyber security role involves. A hands-on skills test puts the candidate in a realistic environment, such as a SIEM, an event log or a code review, and scores what they find, rather than asking them to recall facts.
Which roles can you test?
SOC analysts, incident responders, threat hunters and detection engineers, security engineers, cloud security engineers, application security engineers, IAM engineers, GRC analysts and more. Each assessment is built from the job spec for the specific role.
Are the tests multiple choice?
Mostly not. The library is built around hands-on challenges in real environments, with some multiple-choice and short-answer questions inside them. Investigative tasks use free-text answers where possible, so there is nothing to guess between.
How long does a cyber security skills test take?
Individual challenges take 12 to 40 minutes. You choose which to include, so a first-round screen can be short and a later-stage assessment deeper.
How do you stop cheating?
Task design first: the answers only exist in the data in front of the candidate. Integrity monitoring then records time away from the test, outside pasting, fullscreen exits and second screens, with optional webcam proctoring, next to every score.
